Role in the project
BV is leading the work packages on specification of the application (repair) cases and the design and implementation of the repairs. BV is uniquely qualified for its role in the project. BV Ships in Service Department and AIM / DRD / DT1 have regular involvement in composite patch repairs. For example, at least three vessels were repaired in the past year in this manner. BV are currently working closely with one supplier to ascertain the suitability of these repairs for consideration as definitive. At the present time BV consider patch repairs as temporary only. BV are actively looking at the longitudinal strength aspect of vessels using such repairs and whether the repair contributes to longitudinal strength or not. BV are also involved in Class / Regulatory control of substances used in these repairs from a fire hazard perspective.
